Mae Jane Poulin is a primarily self-taught mixed media artist living and creating in the tiniest ocean state around. Born and raised in New England since 1984 she has grown an appreciation for all elements of nature, human life, and creatures of all kinds. She cannot help but create something cute, whether it's a portrait of her cat Littlebones, or inked mountains against a sunset, forest critters and sea creatures of all kinds, they all continue to emerge within her work.
Heavily influenced by her surroundings, most of her work stems from reality blended with a touch of curiosity. Everyday critters are portrayed in a textured perspective while doodles of humanity and natural wonders combust on to paper. Old-school, child-esque, and vintage-modern elements are layered into her work creating something that people of all ages can relate to. She has an enthusiasm for the classic tradition of old books and the text paper within them. Foreign ones are great, older ones are better.
Mae Jane has been creating art since she was a little one by means of attending youth arts and crafts courses, summer camps, enrolling in four art courses in high school, and studying painting, 3d design, drawing, and architecture in college. She creates art ranging in mediums of ink, watercolor, gouache, collage, glue, and found vintage/scrap elements. She aims to capture life as it is in its raw state against old typographical backdrops. A contrast of reality and whimsy play across the canvas of her work.
When she isn't creating art or some odd crafted creation, she's usually camping in the woods with friends, collecting forgotten trinkets, catching up over food with loved ones, or crawling the pubs with good friends. She'll always be a kid at heart, whether playing in the dirt or playing games with her dog, Hiro; documenting & always creating, concocting forever, this life is a journey.
